Prime Minister Hun Manet Directs Traffic Police to Manage Rush Hour Congestion

Phnom Penh, June 17, 2024 – On the morning of June 17, 2024, Prime Minister Hun Manet presided over the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the twin flyovers along Hun Sen Blvd, marking the border between Phnom Penh and Kandal Province. The flyovers, dubbed the "Hun Manet Flyovers," aim to alleviate traffic in southern Phnom Penh and improve connectivity to Techo International Airport and the "Prek Chik Funan-Techo" project.

During the ceremony, Prime Minister Manet underscored that this project is a continuation of strategic infrastructural development aimed at enhancing urban mobility and supporting economic growth. He detailed several measures to be implemented by his administration to improve city infrastructure and urban planning, aligning with the Phnom Penh 2035 Land Use Plan.

Key points from his address include the promotion of advanced, eco-friendly technologies in infrastructure projects, such as the installation of security cameras, solar lighting, and automated irrigation systems in public parks, to bolster Phnom Penh's stature as a smart ASEAN city. Additionally, he emphasized the need for increased greenery to combat heat and greenhouse gases, particularly in new development zones.

The Prime Minister also outlined plans to improve the city's resilience to climate change by upgrading drainage systems to prevent flooding and ensure readiness for emergency interventions during rainfall and potential floods.

Furthermore, Hun Manet called for continuous action to enhance public safety and order by addressing theft and gang activity more stringently, thereby ensuring the security of both residents and international visitors.

A significant directive from the Prime Minister was the instruction for the Phnom Penh Capital Administration to deploy traffic police officers during peak rush hours to manage and alleviate traffic congestion, ensuring that traffic flows smoothly until normal conditions are restored.

In closing, Prime Minister Manet commended the collaborative efforts of the Phnom Penh Capital Administration, the Overseas Cambodian Investment Company (OCIC), and all parties involved for their dedication and coordination in launching this pivotal infrastructure project.
